USS Bolster ARS 38 In early 1952, the SS Meridian
Victory took on a cargo of ammo at Concord Naval Weapons in CA. While
entering Suyong Man (without a Korean pilot) the ship ran upon a sunken
reef which inflicted considerable damage. The Bolster came over from
Japan and assisted. Bolster's crew crammed spare mattresses
against the hole(s) and secured them with cables which they wound clear
around the hull. With Bolster lashed alongside the Meridian, both
vessels "limped" back to Harima shipyard at Kure, Honshu, Japan. Here a
hardhat divers is going over the side. (Contributed by Chuck Durand) |
