USS Clamp ARS 33 Japanese Battleship Nagato being towed to Eniwetok, Marshall islands, on March 28,1946, by USS CLAMP, ARS 33.  Nagato had been steaming on her own from Japan to Eniwetok, manned by a skeleton U. S. Navy crew, when she became disabled. The USS CLAMP, ARS 33, was dispatched to bring the Battleship to Eniwetok, for use as a target ship for Operation CROSSROADS at Bikini Atoll (Contributed by Eugene Raborn)

USS Clamp ARS 33 In 1946, during Operation CROSSROADS at Bikini Atoll, Marshall Islands, several instrumented submarines were subjected to Nuclear test explosions. After those tests the submarine USS SKATE, was floated, and towed to San Francisco, to be used for Nuclear Radiation research. The USS CLAMP, ARS 33,was tasked with this job. This photo shows CLAMP and the SKATE. Photo was teken in San Francisco after the Skate was towed from Bikini. NAFTS Shipmate Gene Raborn worked as a Diver on this Sub recovery operation (Contributed by Eugene Raborn)
