USS Grapple ARS 53 050908-N-0535P-001 Pascagoula, Miss. (Sept. 8, 2005) - The rescue and salvage ship USS Grapple (ARS 53), prepares to get underway for salvage and diving operations in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina along the Gulf Coast. Rescue and salvage ships render assistance to disabled ships; provide towing, salvage, diving, firefighting and heavy lift capabilities. The Navy's involvement in the Hurricane Katrina humanitarian assistance operations is led by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in conjunction with the Department of Defense.
